The Brownsville Lions Club holds a Super Bowl Party with Chili Cook off
every year at the Brownsville community center. They use any moneys left
over to continue to support the area communities and people.
The Lions sell $10 raffle tickets, tip boards and raffle off 3 recliners
by selling a chance to sit in one for $1. At every score change a new
name is drawn to sit in a chair. The person sitting in the chair at the
end of the game gets to keep it.
This year we had approximatly 125 people in attendance. The winners of the raffle were as follows: 3 - 32" LCD TV (purchased from Alco in
Caledonia): Lana Twite, Roy Lietzau and Jeanie Homewood; 12 ga pump shotgun: Larry Bauer; .410 ga pump shot gun: Vance & Julie Mitchell.
There were 12 entries in the Chili Cook Off. The winners of the Chili
Cook Off were: 1st place ($30) - Remi Sonsalla (7th grader at Caledonia Middle School); a three way tie for 2nd ($15 each): Judy Gantenbein, Norma See and John Heimer. (The picture attached shows: John Himmer, Norma See and Remi Sonsalla - Judy Gantenbein not shown) Each entry in the Chili Cook Off also received $5.
After the judging is completed, all chili is served for everyone to
sample. They also serve very delicious garlic cheese bread from Randy's Meats.
